Milwaukee County Zoo Gorilla

I've always found gorillas to be amazing animals. I'm awe struck by their amazing power, intelligence, patience, and commitment to family. The gorilla here is at the Milwaukee County Zoo, in Milwaukee, WI. I don't know what its name was, but I was told it was female. She is estimated to be about 40 years old.

  • Very powerful. I wonder what she's thinking. Is she tolerant of having her picture taken or does she get suspicious of the photographer? What's that look in her eyes?

  • I wish I could read her mind too. She was sitting on this rock about 7 feet away from me (There's a large pane of glass between she and I). She wasn't looking at me at first, but then the group watching her left and it was just she and I. I bent over the railing as far as I could to get a better shot and then she looked over her shoulder to check me out. She only looked for about 10 seconds. I don't think it was anger or fear in her eyes, but those eye convey sadness to me personally. Who know though. I do know that she was a captured gorilla, but has been with the zoo for over 20 years.
